Anyone know if there has been any headway/solution for removing artillery/shotgun fungus from siding? The only advice I've been able to tell my customers is to 'prevent' it from occuring by removing their wood mulch from next to the house and use something different for a mulch. I'd love to be able to effectively remove it without a trace. Would be a tremendous selling point here in Richmond, VA!!

SunBrite Supply has a product out (have not tried it so am unfamiliar with the effectiveness). Bottom line - the stuff is near bullet-proof sad.gif If you need something to provide your homeowner to help them understand (or cover your butt), there is an article here:

Hi all, My name is Cory, and i am brand new to the pressure washing business. I just picked up a new machine and accessories. I tested them out on my own house yesterday. I was trying to clean what i would describe as "little black spots" from all over my house top to bottom. From what i can tell it appears to be the Shotgun Fungus, however from what i have read i get the feeling it may not be considering it is all the way to the top of a 2 story house. Sorry i dont have any pics of it. The only way i could remove it was to stay 6-3 inches away from the siding surface with a 40 degree tip. i am using 3500 psi and 4gpm pump cold water. I downstreamed house washing soap from my pressure washer store. Do you think this is Shotgun fungus, or am i dealing with something else? I am located in Central Illinois.

Thanks for the help!!!

Cory

Did you read the article Cory? That stupid stuff can shoot it's little spores a very long way sad.gif The best way to tell what you have is a scratch test more or less. If you can scratch it off and there is another brownish stain under, it's probably artillery fungus and at this point your cold water unit is useless. There are companies that claim that high temps will remove it but the argument is that those temperatures will warp the vinyl siding (if that is the surface). If you were able to get it off, you either (a) were EXTREMELY fortunate and got to it within 10 days or so of the explosion or it was fly or spider poop (which looks quite similar and frankly I don't want to think about how many times I've gotten that "crap" under my nails - uck!).

Google has lots of other great articles out there on the stuff - go read. Unless you can seriously work some magic, you're going to lose your butt on jobs trying to get it off. If you do find that magic - patent it before you let your secret out and you'll never need to wash anything again smile.gif
